Malawai Missions
The primary purpose of the
Tommy Burleson Christian
Evangelistic Ministry, is to in
partnership with Fletcher
Presbyterian Church, support
the work of Dr. Barbara
Nagy, resident physician at
the Nkhoma Hospital in
Nkhoma,  Africa.
Dr. Barbara Nagy
Dr. Barbara Nagy is a PC (USA) missionary serving at Nkhoma
Hospital; she is from Morganton, NC and 51 churches in the Presbytery
of Western North Carolina provide 80% of her support.
Since hers is a medical mission, why are your donations for building
schools and medical facilities so important?  Because there is
essentially no preschool in Nkhoma and the primary schools are so poor
that the staff at Nkhoma Hospital have to either send their children
to Lilongwe to school (60 miles a day round trip), to send their
children to live with family members in Lilongwe, or to take a
position closer to better schools.  Most cannot afford the high cost of
transportation and opt for other positions.  So the ability of the
Hospital to service its catchment area of 60,000 is greatly diminished.
Projects funded and completed over
the last five years in Nkhoma
include:
  • Construction of bath facilities
    for the Pediatric Ward at
    Nkhoma Hospital and
    restroom's for the
    Administration Building
    completed in 2004.

  • Hospital Equipment: Purchase
    of new oxygen concentrator,
    also funding of repair for
    existing units.  Repair of
    emergency lighting, sterilizers
    and x-ray boxes (2004-2008).

  • Medical Supplies: Funding and
    supplying of various medicines
    from antibiotics to aspirin.

  • Construction of staff housing:
    The construction of the Glen
    Davis House serviced a critical
need for housing of the Nkhoma
Hospital Staff.  A total of eight
houses have been built so far,
and we hope to build as many
as twenty five over the next
    ten years.  (2006)

  • Renovation of Nkhoma
    Hospitals' Pediatric Ward:  The
    pediatric ward was given an
overall face lift with the use of
    new paint, curtains and
    equipment. (2007)
